Here’s an invitation to area coaches and athletic administrators who want a better football, soccer, and spring sports playing field…at a price that doesn’t upset the district’s budget.
For the past three years Ever-Green Turf and Landscape has had great success in “transitioning” existing playing fields into more durable, safer surfaces by employing newer, better turf varieties and a comprehensive maintenance program. The results, on Arcanum High School’s varsity football field, and Newton High School’s softball and soccer field, have been spectacular, and cost tens of thousands less than traditional renovation methods.
Just 18 months from the start of the “transition” process, Newton’s varsity soccer field is a point of school and community pride…and will continue to get “better” with proper care and maintenance.
The pictures don’t lie. The Arcanum football field (above) was nearly bare between the hash marks when we took it over in the fall of 2009. And, the rest of the field was about 50% tall fescue. Now, in just three years of seeding with new hybrid varieties, proper feeding and water, that field was durable enough to withstand nearly 30 football games last season (varsity, JV, junior high, and community pee-wee play), and shows no ill effects in the photo taken this past May 5th. It’s thick, weed-free, and ready for play come August. And, there’s little or no fescue left in it.
The Newton soccer field (inset photo) was seeded as a new field in the fall of 2011 with the same hybrid blend and has made an even more miraculous growth in just 18 months. Originally planted in a generic fescue sports blend by contractors, by the spring of 2014 this field will rank with the best natural soil grass soccer surfaces in the state of Ohio. All it takes is the proper seed, feed, and mowing maintenance. And again, it’s well within budget.
